Since opening in 2016, the Martinsville Youth Development Center (MYDC) has focused on a simple but important mission: creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Through after-school programming, homework assistance, leadership development, fitness activities, mentorship, and life skills education, the organization provides a supportive environment where students can build confidence and prepare for the future.
To continue providing those opportunities, MYDC recently faced an important facility need. The center's 20-year-old heating and cooling system could no longer be repaired, creating challenges for the students and families who rely on the facility. During the previous school year, extreme temperatures even forced the center to suspend operations for several weeks. Reliable heating and cooling are essential to maintaining the safe, welcoming environment that MYDC strives to provide every day.
As often happens in strong communities, people came together to help. The project benefited from substantial donated labor and installation support, significantly reducing the overall cost of replacing the system. Additional community support helped close the remaining funding gap and move the project forward.
Home Bank was pleased to contribute $27,784 toward the effort, but the greater story is the impact MYDC continues to have on local students. By ensuring the facility remains safe, comfortable, and operational year-round, this project helps preserve a resource that supports young people and their families throughout our community. The work happening at the Martinsville Youth Development Center is changing lives every day, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support its mission.
Community support remains vital to helping MYDC continue and expand its work. Individuals who would like to volunteer, get involved, or make a donation to support the organization's mission are encouraged to contact MYDC at martinsvilleyouthcenter@gmail.com or 765-558-8137.
Families interested in learning more about MYDC's programs and services are also encouraged to reach out.
